Workshop - Lantern Making

纸灯笼

It is a Happy Hour for everyone. This fun-filled hour of lantern-making provides lots of fun for all students as they learn to combine art concepts with the use of colour. Each student can decorate the lantern according to their own design.

In the workshops, the students learn about the history, festivals, calligraphy characters, colour codes and customs of making Chinese lanterns. It is a good way to learn about the lantern colour codes. During the Chinese New Year and the Mid-Autumn Festival, it is the custom of the Chinese people to hang up bright colour lanterns in their homes.  However, a white lantern is hung outside the house when a family member dies.   Red-coloured lanterns are used for weddings, new business openings, and celebrations.
