Chinese New Year Party for the Homeless
The Chinese New Year Party for the Homeless people and volunteers who work for the homeless. The event was an excellent opportunity to involve local Chinese restaurants and encourage the work of businesses in the community. The generous contributions by the following restaurants meant plenty of delicious food for everyone. The following restaurants have supported our Homeless Party for the past five years. It is they who made our Homeless Party successful.
On the 9th of January 2019, we held our annual Chinese New Year party for the homeless on Oldham Street, Manchester City Centre. With homelessness on the rise in Manchester, as rent prices continue to escalate, MCC wanted to include the homeless and those marginalised in society in the Chinese New Year celebrations. We organised 100 hot meals: Sweet and Sour Chicken, Chicken Chow Mein, Veg spring rolls, Prawn Crackers and Fried Rice. The UK Guanyin Citta has donated 108 small Veg fried rice, 120 bottles of water and two large trays of apples. Our core aims are celebrating and bringing people together, and we hope to help different people in Manchester.
“MCC has been working with many local Charity organisations to support Manchester Homeless people since 2009 – Nov 2016. We want to encourage Chinese Community to integrate with the mainstream and care for the community around them. Chinese parents need to set good model for their children.” said Jenny Wong
“The Chinese community should be able to learn the "British values" and develop good attitudes toward charity work. Through this program will allowed them to participate fully in and contribute positively to life in modern Britain.” Said Qili Situ, Chinese teacher
