Social Networking

MCC is a well-known Charity Organisation in Greater Manchester. We work with the Chinese community in Chinatown, Chinese temples, churches, schools, Chinese interpreting and translation service companies, businesses, NHS, social care, Chinese organisations and BBC. We also have an important role in maintaining Chinese culture, festival activities and Chinese history in the UK in partnership with the community in Chinatown, Manchester City Archives, MOSI, MMU University, Manchester University, Salford University and the Manchester History Festival.

Building hope for our offspring

We are working with our Chinese children to integrate more with mainstream society.  In the UK, Chinese children are achieving a very high level in their academic studies but are not reaching the same heights in their careers. So far, we have not seen many Chinese people working as TV presenters, politicians, writers, barristers, judges or actors. Chinese people are very behind in these professions compared with other ethnic groups. Unfortunately, the Chinese community lack support from mainstream services, especially regarding funding. We are trying to work with many media companies, including the BBC children’s programs, in the hope that Chinese children can develop an interest in media work or a career as a barrister.

In Sept 2019, we established the Maths Challenge Club; Oct 2022, we started an English Reading Club and Mandarin Corner; in April 2023, we started the Science Club. In June 2022, we built a small community library and a “Super Kids” stage to encourage our children to read English aloud, write book reviews, make speeches, and express their opinion to the public. It is a very long road ahead.
