Introduction to our school

Manchester Chinese Centre is a self-supported organisation, registered charity (No. 1114121) and a company limited by guarantee (No. 5641623) and it’s been established since December 2005.

Manchester Chinese Centre is a registered charity that assists immigrants to develop their skills and enhance their well-being, thus enabling them to participate more fully in society. Since we were set up in 2005, we have grown from just 6 children to 352 children attending our supplementary weekend school 2017. Many are improving their career prospects by attending our diverse range of both adult education and children’s courses including Chinese Language, English, Maths, Science and Chinese Arts in a warm, friendly and respectful environment. We provide updated parenting sign post and UK education system information for parents.  Our services are open to all members of the community.

Our young students have the specific opportunity to attend our supplementary school offering tuition in both Chinese and Mandarin languages up to A-Level. We also provide outreach work in schools and youth groups, fostering a greater understanding of Chinese Culture and History.

There is information about UK Chinese Supplementary school which has benefit Chinese children.

(The Guardian newspaper:) Hidden tigers: Why do Chinese children do so well at school?

2005-2016, Our School was totally relying on volunteers to run from administration work to cleaning; 2017 we started to employ part time staff to run our administration work.  We have to work extremely hard to build up our reputation of our supplementary school for children and encourage Chinese parents to keep up with ESOL English and Adult Education Training program.  We have been building good partnerships with the community, with parents, teachers, children and volunteers.  We have also managed to train parents and volunteers to be fully qualified interpreters, administrators and teachers to gain full time employment.

Our School had further expanded our activities and workshops for our children. In partnership with a wide range of NGOs, government and media organisations this has enabled our school to expand our activities and networks with the wider community in Manchester. In 2019 Manchester’s Children hospital invited our children to run Chinese New Year Events. With opportunities in arts and craft, dance and cultural workshops our school has a wide range of extra curriculum to appeal to all children from different backgrounds and create an enjoyable and creative learning experience.
